In the past week, I have made the following dishes since I returned from LCB! :) for dinner one night for myself and my family, I made crunchy cheddar chicken three types of potatoes, one with chives, one with white cheddar cheese, and one with ranch dressing, peas, radishes as a side, and steamed broccoli. For breakfast I made pancakes and coffee for my family as a surprise. And on Tuesday I made a salad and baked two pans of the most amazing banana bread with wallnuts from scratch! I am so proud, and my banana bread is still being eaten today by my family and friends! :) My mom took some salad for lunch today, and she ate some on top of her cheeseburger tonight for dinner! :) So all in all, I have had a fun and productive week! I love making new foods! I can't wait to see what next dish I want to conquer! Stay tuned, I will keep you updated! :)

Good for you. Radishes as a side? Do you mean raw or cooked? I've never heard of cooking radishes, but you never know.
Cooking can be a lot of fun, especially when you are cooking for others and when it isn't an everyday necessity.

Congrats.
Oh, and how do we cook pancakes blind? I don't eat as much of that stuff anymore but never did learn how to do pancakes.

That's awesome. I love making things from scratch, though I don't get to do as much of it these days because my wonderful partner is, well, a better cook than I am. Fortunately, or unfortunately for me. lol. Whatever. Oh and Leo, I'll ask him how he makes pancakes if you're curious. His are fantastic.
But not to detract from this board post, I'm very happy for you, OP, and I'm happy that you have the opportunity now and the know-how to be so generous twoard yoru family.

That's wonderful! It feels good to be able to cook, and it feels even better to be able to cook for someone who appreciates it.
when I make pancakes, I make them just a bit thicker than most, so they don't fall apart when I slide my spatula under them to flip them.

I'm learning how to cook and I love it! I just live alone so no one to cook for so it's harder to get motivated. :(
What's the recipie for the cheddar chicken? that sounds great!

Yay good for you. I'm constantly trying to improve in the kitchen.
my partner and I actually did some scollop potatoes with cream cheese (instead of sour cream) and chives, and they were sooo good; that combination of flavours is to die for. :)

Congratulations. *smile* I do cook, but it's difficult and frustrating when one parent likes to sit there and ... not sure if hover is the correct word, but she claims she's just watching. so I wait until she's gone to work to do much of my cooking. lol Unless I need assistance, (which I'll ask for if necessary), I don't like it when people are in the kitchen with me. And yes, that chicken sounds really good. Cooking for one can be a pain in the butt, but hey, just freeze the leftovers and you've got enough to feed yourself for the next few days. *smile*

Yes, you're right! I do that a lot whenever I can. wich reminds me I need to get more containers to freeze stuff in!

Congratulations! I do agree it feels good to cook for someone who appreciates it. When I cook I like to improvise. I've never cooked for too many people, but I've done it for about 5, and it was a hit. I love making garlic mushrooms with skirt stake, for example. But I like to read different recepys and improvise. I hate when people come in the kitchen and interrupt me to tell me to do things their way, or when they sit there to watch only to correct me. I have my way of doing things, and don't get me wrong, I can be corrected if I have to, but not in my way of doing things in the kitchen. And later people wonder how I made certain dishes, lol! Oh, this brings me to another question. Since there are so many spices one can use, do you label them? Or can you tell the difference from each one with the bottle? Most of them are not so hard to tell by the smell but I label mine. Oh, and I hate, hate hate cluttered kitchens. Been there done that, and it's hell because one can't find anything or can't be comfortable or organized.

If this were my kitchen, i'd have spice jars labeled. I'm not that good at finding a whole lot of differentthings by giving them the sniff test. Plus, the jars would have to have an opening wide enough so I could get the appropriate measurement out easily. But it's not, and there's just not enough space for the kind of setup I'd like to have, sadly.
